Job Description:

Surface America, a national recreational surfacing company and a subsidiary of ecore, has an exciting opportunity for a talented person to be a Technical Manager in our Buffalo, NY headquarters.  Do you have solid knowledge of the construction industry and consider yourself to have strong business acumen?  This position could be a perfect fit!

The Technical Manager will be the technical expert in a small group which manages national construction installation services for Surface America.  They will work closely with the Construction Manager and other staff on routine company installation responsibilities and as needed with entire staff, including Senior Managers, on problem-solving for the entire product line.  This position requires the development of both on-site and in-house knowledge, assessments and action plans for the betterment of the company’s installation and construction responsibilities and presence.  Some Senior Management guided research & development and technical writing of specifications and manuals will be part of the position.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Communicating via email and phone with on-site contractors, clients, sales agents, company staff, installation crews, suppliers, and freight companies to ensure projects are completed on time without cost overruns.
  • Writing action plans to rectify project specific issues and develop documents (specifications, manuals, etc.) that proactively improve the company’s future potential within the industry
  • Travel to job sites as needed for:  on-site supervision; problem solving; client education; enhancement of understanding installation processes; etc. 
  • Contributing to company’s entrepreneurial staff’s general workload by reading blueprints, deciphering electronic plans for order fulfillment, and other miscellaneous tasks

 


Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Business Management (or similar field of study) required or equivalent work experience (4 years)
  • 1+ year related work experience required
  • Technical background related to construction; familiarity w/construction documents and nomenclature
  • Strong written and interpersonal communication skills with ability to be diplomatic and professional
  • Must be both ambitious, self-starter and able to take direction 
  • Excellent organizational skills, computer literacy, and ability to balance multiple tasks is required
  • Willingness to travel as required (approximately 10%-20%)
