Design Engineer

Job Description:

The Design Engineer will be primarily responsible for performing computer-aided drafting and layouts to produce drawings for Ecore. The position will be responsible for creating various layout and design projects tasks, coordinating with contractors to assist with project management, and establishing time lines and goals for projects.  The Design Engineer works closely with the Project Engineers and the Director of Operations to produce designs that are manufacturable and economically feasible. 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Design and execute drawings to include: new machinery, existing machinery modifications, facility layouts, parts and floor plans. Performs research and makes recommendations on new and existing designs.
  • Work from sketches, specifications, plans and layouts to make all required designs, layouts and detailed drawings and revisions in accordance with drafting standards; setting up and maintaining an organized file system for all drawings
  • Utilizes knowledge of various machines, engineering practices, mathematics, building materials and other physical sciences to complete drawings.
  •  Write various literature such as Standard Operational Procedures surrounding CAD work and production processes
  • Create or edit facility layout drawings to accurately determine quoting for machinery moves and installations
  • Oversees smaller projects independently and assist with the project management of larger projects
  • Participate in Lean Manufacturing programs, processes and systems to eliminate waste and improve overall product quality, safety and manufacturing capability
 
Requirements:
  • Associate's degree in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 2+ years of relevant experience in 2D and 3D CAD drafting (manufacturing environment preferred)
  • 1+ year experience with Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, 5S, in order to formulate and implement process improvements and best practices in a manufacturing environment
  • Previous experience assisting with project management associated with machinery moves and installations (concept, design, cost estimates, schedules and development, production, support and retirement)
  • Ability to effectively use MS Office (specifically, Word, Project, Excel) and other applicable software applications to include AutoCAD, 3D design; MRP/ERP system knowledge is a plus
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently with a strong customer focus
  • Ability to work independently without direct supervision and within teams
  • Good technical writing and communication skills 
  • Must possess a strong attention to detail, place a high priority on the quality of the work produced and strong organizational skills
